My trip to Florida with my dad and sister Ceil was supposed to be highlighted by a big space shuttle shooting off into the great black chill. Instead, it was anticlimaxed by an overly prepared-for lunch and souvenir shop visit at the Kennedy Space Center. We rallied, though, and managed to make the rest of the trip awesome enough that by the end I was just enchanted by all of the great things we saw and had forgotten why we had decided to make the trip in the first place. The South is great.

Flowers are why they call it Florida!

Florida flora, shot by Dad's nice new camera.

Outside the Castello at St. Augustine

From the upper gun deck of afore-mentioned Castello.

Guard tower (fun to stand in and make an owl noise!)

Ceil and I at Cocoa Beach.

Fun with Focus.

Ceil has collected lots of pretty sea shells.

Dad delights in daughter photos.

Floridian scenery...

Spot the crabs!

Florida fauna this time.

Cooler than some crazy necktie.

Posing for one more

Dad and Bean #1.

The dark, vertical band is rain.

The Castello is built out of compacted shells and sand. Every time a cannonball hit it, it compacted, actually making it stronger. And it's pretty!

Trying not to think about the cigarette-burned mattress awaiting me at the Carolina Lodge.
